About us

It all started in 1930s with a small shoe and repair shop in Breil-sur-Roya, in the countryside just inland from Nice. Two decades later, in 1959, Paul Sartore set up his own factory with his wife Marcelle. He launched his first line Sportsouple, a range of driving shoes while his wife Marcelle managed the company. A second brand called Esquire was born along with new offices. With this new line, they created a range of men stitched mocassins of English and American tradition, and also a collection of women's boots, with horse-riding and trotting shoes models. In the 1970s, the first stylish clogs made their first appearance but what made the brand modern and fashionable was its line of boots with simple, double, triple and even quadruple plates. Always looking for the best leatherwork artisans and patinas, the couple taught their daughters how to spot quality work and enjoy beautiful things. Very soon, the girls sharpened their eyes and fell in love with Italian lifestyle: celebrating the dolce vita and a refinement they still advocate today. Shoes experts since their childhood, they both naturally joined the family company in 1978. It was a booming time for ready-to-wear and Sartore worked on its own style and identity. This is when Sartore was born, a new way of wearing shoes. The 1980s welcomed western boots and ethnically inspired shoes, whereas the 1990s were under the influence of Japanese stylists who redesigned silhouettes and gaits. In the late 1990's, the brand was about to enter a new turning point. The factory closed dow an and Sartore was now manufactured in Italy by the best shoemakers. In the years 200, Sartore launched its first unisex line...

And in 2011, Sartore opens today a boutique located 3 rue du Faubourg-Saint-Honoré.
